Rape: An overly abused word today

Rape causes undue shame in the victim. The society sympathises with her and makes her feel even more ashamed. It causes deep mental bruises in the victim and the one to surfer is the victim.

The recent Bulandshahr rape incident proves that this country is that of shameless and egoistic men. According to NCRB there is a rape occurrence every 20 minutes in India and there is absolutely no measure to prevent this horrifying crime.

Nirbhaya rape case should have alerted the crime branch and the Police to take severe action against rapists but as said by the Bulandshahr’s victim’s father, his daughter was, in fact was asked inappropriate questions on rape by the police officials.

Why? I want to ask the society, is it the victim’s wrong doing that she was brutalised or is it the rapist at fault? If the rapist is at fault then why is the victim questioned on the crime? Why isn’t stern action taken against the perpetrators? It’s because the overall mentality on rape hasn’t changed ever since the first took place. The mentality is that the woman may have instigated the men!

No woman in her right mind instigates men to rape her. If this isn’t understood by our society today it will never be understood.

Bollywood should make movies on rape to spread awareness on the mentality of men around this crime in order to make woman mentally stronger. The crime should and will stop if the right education is imparted to the society amongst men on what rape is and how to prevent it.

The sheer audacity of committing the heinous crime will stop if it’s looked down by the society as a whole and endorsed against it by popular idols.

Rape is a testament of corrupt thinking that can be changed with a little help from the media. The education that needs to be divulged upon is that rape isn’t an outlet for bruised egos or lust or even man power. It’s the act of cowards.

Abuse less, save more,
Jumana
