The Dark Embrace

To the love it could have been

Somewhere in a platonic relationship she was committed to him. She didn’t like to use the term relationship but that’s what she had made it become in her head over time. She didn’t exist in his world yet she existed for him. Somewhere in a private world of his own, he wondered about her secretly.

It was fire when they saw each other in the eye, both aware of each other’s quirks. That was three years ago. One peck on the lips and they couldn’t resist each other. It could have gone on, but she didn’t have to stop him.

He was waiting for her permission to go on. She fell in love with the respect he showed her. That was the first hit. The first realization there was something about the guy that played to the ‘Moon and Back’ in her head. It was a kiss, but they didn’t hug each other.

She dwelled further into him She couldn’t stop thinking about him. About this guy who stole her breath away. Decadence of pure passion enveloping their very being under the star lit sky on an open terrace overlooking the sea and beyond – many dreams.

The next hit was when they met at a new year party, only that he was with another girl. If she was jealous, she didn’t show it.They didn’t wish each other that night. He passed by her, but the hug never happened. The innocence of love is mesmerizing.

She went away to college and he got busy with work. Growing up as they were, their quirks grew too. A riding desire fulfilled seeing each other every passing moment platonically. Soon this grew into an online game; living adrift of reality somewhere in a real world of their own. Those were happy days.

She lived in her own world, day dreaming of the time she returned back home from college and to meet him once again. She met with an accident soon after that changed her life forever.

Nights turned dark. Stars without wishes went by. Seasons changed, people grew. She stood there to stare at the mirage of the reality that no longer mattered to her. Things had stopped affecting her the night she suffered from a panic attack from the accident.

Their imaginary world was destroyed by the realities of the real world. By now the sea stopped its blessed waves on them and the love was buried deep under the blue and white sea. They never did hug each other.
