The Love Game, Season 2: Episode 2

In love, there’s a tomorrow

A tomorrow of delayed love

A promise of meeting once again

But does love gain or lose?

The Love Game: A game not for the faint hearted!

Let them pit against each other. Ya, I think they should do that. That’s the only way they’ll find out if they love each other really or not.

It was 3 am in the morning and Sim was deeply focused on her next step in helping her two dear friends either get back together for good or part ways for good. She’d had enough of Prantik laying all the cards in the relationship. For Jahnvi’s sake, she would help both of them out. But Jahnvi needed to know Prantik’s plan. This time her loyalty was more towards Jahnvi. She loved Prantik and Jahnvi both, but Prantik had done Jahnvi wrong two years ago just because he wasn’t ready to be a committed man.

Should she call Jahn right now? Let’s take a chance, if she’s busy preparing her next story, then she will be awake. Sim made up her mind and called Jahn.

Hi babe, is it a good time? Sim asked concerned because she had to be very careful around her friend when it was related to Prantik. Jahnvi wouldn’t admit it, but she was still a little vulnerable and her wound was still fresh when touched upon her pain point.

Sim! Sup… I was just about finishing my story for tomorrow’s edition of the city paper. Jahnvi said all cheerful.

Emotional consumerism

We’re all bound to the internet. The internet of today. The savage replies in comments by our friends to grasping every inch of negativity about ourselves. Somehow it doesn’t feel so strange anymore that social media just knows our state of mind every moment. Moment marketing is the way brands are thriving these days.

Brands make us feel worthy one minute to completely useless the next. Emotional consumerism is headed to devastating points in man’s life just by the fact that they consume the data thrown at them for relativity.

“Oh I was late boss, I am not sorry. I had to attend to my barking dog scared of the greenery in my lawn.

Boss: It’s all about priorities Sally. It is, isn’t it?

On one hand social media has broken the century old chain of being dependent on a job but on the other hand it has taken away that responsibility from us of being answerable to our duties at work. This is just one example. Another one is getting constantly distracted to check our phones for the latest updates on the cutest babies on Instagram.

Well, whether it’s a planned shoot by parents almost compromising an unadulterated childhood for their infants by teaching them to pose and be camera ridden 24/7 only to grow up with many psychological setbacks for them in later years  or it’s getting lost in the numerous feeds on who is cheating whom in Bollywood.

Somehow, negative news excites us as we flee to a multi dimensional reality on our phones to know about other’s misery over our own in real life.

The social media phenomenon of feeding us with emotional consumerism is only but the passage to perhaps change the way we view the world. Tell me, reading these pages, doesn’t it make you laugh but in reality their posts are shifting your psyche without you even realizing it?

You sound great Jahn, so this is a good time. Listen; let me in you on something. Okay but please be prepared to be practical because it’s related to Prantik. Sim said cautiously.

Oh okay, said Jahnvi suddenly her antenna up and alert.

Okay hear me out without reacting, okay? Sim said a little scared of spilling Prantik’s POA

That man doesn’t affect me anymore, Sim. Just say it and maybe I can help him if he’s lost in his emotions. He wasn’t there for me when I was going through an emotional roller coaster without him but I won’t do the same with him, said Jahnvi.

Prantik wants you back. That day when he met you at the book launch, he had just flown back from the States. And before I say more, let me tell you that he has always loved you and been there for you. Remember the time I called you about bubblegum tea at night? He was on conference so I called that late.

Sim!

Okay, Okay, I am sorry okay Jahn. Hear me out then curse me. The truth is he never left. I didn’t tell you that on the morning of his disappearance when you were over. He told me before flying that he needed time to realize his feelings for you. He just couldn’t accept your love completely that time. He was scared you would be too dependent on him for life if he married you two years ago. He wanted you to face life without him so that you become universally independent. In his words, “She will be lost for a while but when she finds her purpose she will mature in no time.”

WTF Sim!

Please hear me out Jahn. Please.

I will ask you about your loyalties later, go on. What’s his POA since now he has deciphered that he loves me again?

Okay so he knows you tell me everything. He knows I will tell him where you are and he plans to show up where you are with a different girl. That chick is really sweet and his friend for a long time. He plans to play along with her to arouse your feelings for him again. He wants you to react and run into his arms.

I see. But you must tell him that I don’t give two hoots even if he gets married tomorrow. Jahnvi said suddenly forgetting it was 3:30 am! She was alert and now completely on fire about the game her ex was about to play with her. You know, even if you didn’t tell me his plan I wouldn’t have fallen for his love games anymore.

Suddenly Sim didn’t know what to do! On one side she had to confide in her 20 years old friend who was now as indifferent to her love as autumn leaves in July! And on the other hand, Prantik was a 20 year old friend to her too. He was so happy with the thought of winning over Jahnvi. Had she ruined it for him? Sim was getting increasingly nervous now.

Sim are you there? Jahnvi said perturbed a bit.

Sim thought that minute. She had done the right thing. She would make these two mad people marry each other. They were a perfect couple. No, she was right. Yes, Jahn I am here.

Now Jahnvi was thinking…

Jahn are you there? Sim asked not knowing her now unpredictable friend’s reaction. Sim said, “ Jahn one thing I need to clarify. If you think he deserted you two years ago, it’s a no. His way of doing it was harsh but he only loved you. He loves you a lot. I know it’s difficult for you to comprehend this fact at this stage of moving on in life, but he is serious about you. Always was."

Sim please don’t play the devil’s advocate, Jahnvi said upset.

Okay Jahn, I know as your friend that he and you are made for each other. Every couple faces road blocks. Yours lasted long but it has matured you in a very worldly way. You are not the same anymore. You can see through people and yet you are nice to them. That’s what this break did to you. In my opinion, you’re one of those mature yet sweet women who take hardships in their stride and that is what he wanted you to become, but not unattached from him. Jahn I know you don’t think you love him anymore. But I know you do. You always have. But the reason I spilled the beans is because I want you to have a fair chance of knowing whether you love him too or not.

What do you suggest? Jahnvi asked calculative about her friend’s confession.

I want you to make him taste his own medicine. I want you to reverse his game on him. Let there be a tirade of love, war and everything in between for you to know whether you love him or no! Sim said jubilant feeling like a visionary that minute.

Jahnvi smiled for the first time in a way that if Prantik could see her that instant he would have died of a crush on her! That same naughty smile played on her when Prantik and she had started the online love game three years ago. Jahnvi didn’t know the game’s outcome yet, but she was sure something good would come out of this. She didn’t know if she would fall for Prantik again or not but she was sure about one thing – It was time to play again!

Leave the rest to moi, Jahnvi said satisfied.

With that, Sim and Jahnvi planned their brunch at their favorite rooftop café at Gateway for the next day, wished each other great sleep and two lifetime friends hung up convinced about girl power.

Then Jahnvi did something she never imagined she would do. She called Sahil.

Hi Sahil, is it a good time? Jahnvi asked confident about her POA.

Jahnvi? What in the world… it's 6 am! Sahil asked concerned.

Hey, first of all congratulations on your marriage and I am sorry I couldn’t make it on your big day. But you know how I was at that time, Jahnvi said feeling slightly bad that she had missed her ex-fiance’s big day a year ago.

Its okay woman, Sahil said resigning to the post of the bed and making any sleep that came by go way.

Will you play a game with me? Jahnvi asked excited.

What game? Sahil asked perplexed.

The Love Game! Jahnvi said bending over her hunch of fun times coming back in her life!
